Depression Beater: Living Life At A Net Loss!

This article and video discusses how the life philosophy Living Life At A Net Loss can free oneself from depression and allow us to live a life free of expectation.

The following is a philosophy that I don’t think too many other life coaches touch upon and in the grand repertoire of ideas out there it may not seem like the most conventional. It is also quite simple in its message and therefore easy to apply. So without further ado, let me introduce you to the philosophy of Living At A Net Loss

On this website, I have used the economy as an analogy for three different aspects of life, energy, emotion and finances. This time, we’re looking at life as a whole. A lot of YOLO-inspired life philosophies urge us to get the most out of life whilst we can. The philosophy Living At A Net Loss does not imply that you should relieve yourself of all your worldly possessions and go live in the forest, but rather refers to what you take out of this world and what you leave behind. If you think of your life as a plus / minus economy wherein if you take something from the world in terms of a pleasant experience it’s a plus and if you give something to the world it’s a minus, you should aim to live life and to ultimately leave this world at a net loss. That is not to say that you should stay away from the pleasant experiences that a life on this beautiful planet can offer, rather that you should compensate for those experiences with a lifetime of giving to this world so that one day you may leave this world behind having added to it, rather than simply having taken from it. Needless to say, this is a gargantuan task for anyone and most of us won’t be able to leave life at a net loss even though we may want to. The point is to try to and as long as you try, you are living life in the right way.

Depression And Living Life At A Net Loss

So how does this philosophy help with depression?

With more egocentric life philosophies such as YOLO we are encouraged to look at what life can offer to us. In other words, we approach life expecting to get the most out of it and anything less will therefore seem like a loss. Do you see where I am going with this?

The philosophy Living Life At A Net Loss changes this dynamic. We go from seeing what the world can give to us to wanting to give to it. It is selfless. Essentially we are taking away the ego and freeing ourselves from its power over us.

A lot of what causes depression is reflecting on certain aspects of life that are out of your control and at looking at what you don’t have. This takes away from that and allows us to live a life free of the burden of expectation and depression.
